Don is the Chair of the Public Safety and Regulatory Services Committee Don authored the anti-loitering ordinance, giving the police department more tools with which to remove drug dealers from street corners. He championed policies, which enabled the City to close 18 neighborhood convenience stores that had become hubs of drug dealing and gang activity. In 2007, he steered all $1,300,000 of the police technology budget to North Minneapolis for installation of a shot-spotter and an integrated camera system. He has introduced changes to the firearms ordinance that will restrict the use of facsimile guns, and after several disturbing dog-bite incidents, convened a citywide task force to propose effective improvements to the Dangerous Dog ordinance.
