A Message From Don...
The Minneapolis DFL in the fifth ward elected by a majority to endorse my candidacy for City Council. I promise to work for all of you.
This summer, I will be walking door to door to hear what is important to the citizens of North Minneapolis. I believe in representative government for everyone, not just the dominant few. I remain focused on finding solutions to our problems of foreclosures, transportation, joblessness, education, crime prevention, and crime reduction.
Collaboration and accessibility has been a guiding principle of my public service, I have worked hard to build a strong community. I have sent the message that North Minneapolis and its needs will not be ignored. I have built strong public/private partnerships that have brought significant resources to our community. Six years later, these collaborations are transforming our environment, and we can see the positive changes in our neighborhoods.
In a speech that Michelle Obama gave in Orangeburg, SC on November 20, 2007, she said, ‘we are only as strong as the weakest among us; that there is more that binds us together than drives us apart. Until we see ourselves in one another - and express our ideals and values not just through our churches and families, but through our government - then these problems are going to continue to plague us.’ I too believe in the collective mind of all of the 5th ward being engaged in these solutions, because no one person can do it alone. I need you in government, bringing forth your ideas and wisdom so we together can transform it into policy.
As a City Council Member for the past six years, I have sent the message that North Minneapolis will not continue to be ignored. On November 3, 2009, we will have an opportunity to elect me to City Council, I promise that I will continue to be a strong voice for us all.
